John M. Parker papers, 1943-1997.

Collection contains largely legal materials relating to Parker's involvement as a witness in the 1982-1985 lawsuit between the Kansas-Nebraska Natural Gas Company against Marathon Oil Company and Double M. Oil Company over the Huntsman Field located near Sidney, Nebraska. Parker served as a consultant for Kansas-Nebraska Natural Gas and authored several reports, maps, and geological studies in support of their case. These legal materials also include correspondence between Parker and Kansas-Nebraska Gas' attorneys, depositions and exhibits, oil well log files, subject files, and cross-sectional maps. The collection also contains biographical material on Parker and materials relating to his 1943 exploration in the Northwest Territories, Canada.

Parker (1920- ), a geologist and oil explorer, was born in Kansas and graduated from Kansas State University in 1941. After working for Stanolind Oil, Parker joined Kirby Petroleum Company in 1952 and was in charge of exploration in the western United States and Canada.
